Beyond the tax return.
A Proactive CPA for the Roaring Fork Valley
Most CPAs file a tax return. We are proactive in your tax picture.
SR2 Accounting is a boutique CPA firm working with business owners, real estate investors, and short-term rental owners from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. We plan your year with you instead of reporting on it afterward.

What clients say
His proactive approach has helped us stay ahead of potential issues and make more informed financial decisions. From routine filings to more nuanced tax planning, SR2 Accounting has been a reliable and trusted partner for our law firm.
The proactive part
Plan the year, don't just file it
Most of the value in a CPA relationship shows up long before April. When we know what your year looks like, we can tell you what a decision will cost before you make it instead of after. That's what proactive means here, and it's the difference between a CPA who reports history and one who helps you shape it.
The other half is how we communicate. You get straight answers in plain language, and you're not waiting a week on a return call. Open, transparent communication is the thing our clients bring up most.
Four kinds of clients
Who we work with
Four kinds of tax pictures come through our door more than any other. If yours looks like one of these, we've almost certainly seen your situation before.
Real estate investors
Rental losses, depreciation, real estate professional status, and the reporting that follows a 1031 exchange. When you own property, the planning matters more than the filing.
Real estate investor taxSelf-employed and S-corp owners
S-corp elections, reasonable salary, self-employment tax, and the tax side of retirement contributions. This is the work we do most.
Self-employed and S-corp taxShort-term rental owners
Material participation, the short-term rental loss rules, and depreciation. Valley short-term rentals carry their own set of rules, and getting them right is worth real money.
Short-term rental taxSecond-home owners and high earners
Multi-state residency, K-1 income, and the question of where you're actually taxed when your life spans more than one state.

Serving the Roaring Fork Valley
We work with clients in Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs, and with a handful who moved away and stayed with us. Most of the work happens over video, phone, and secure document exchange, so where you sit in the valley doesn't change how the relationship runs.
We manage your taxes and accounting so that you can spend more time realizing what the valley has to offer.

Common questions
What does a proactive CPA actually do differently?
We look at your tax picture during the year rather than only at filing time. In practice that means talking through the tax effect of a property sale, an S-corp election, or a large equipment purchase before you commit to it. The return still gets filed. It just stops being the first time anyone looks at the numbers.
Do you work with clients outside the Roaring Fork Valley?
Yes. Most of our clients are in the valley, and we also work with clients in other states who found us through referrals. Either way the work runs over video, phone, and secure document exchange.
How does your pricing work?
We bill hourly for tax compliance work instead of selling fixed packages or tiers. What a return costs depends on how complex it is, and you get an estimate before we start.
Are you taking on new clients?
Yes. The best time to start is outside the March and April crunch, when there's room to plan rather than just file. Reach out any time of year and we'll tell you straight what we can take on.
What don't you handle?
We don't prepare trust or estate returns, and we don't work in farming or agriculture. If your situation calls for either, we'll say so early and point you toward someone who does.
